Here, Beauty Daily speaks to Clarins Retail Trainer Jason Roberts, to get his insider knowledge on how to promote eyebrow growth naturally, as well as make-up techniques to create the illusion of thicker brows. Whether you have naturally thin brows or have experienced thinning due to overplucking, medical conditions, age, or hormonal changes, we’ve got you covered!
Is it possible to grow thicker eyebrows?
If you’ve been wondering whether it’s possible to grow thicker eyebrows, the answer is yes! However, there is a caveat, if follicle death has occurred, sadly, you won’t see any hair growth no matter how hard you try. But, for thinning, patchy brows, there are ways to stimulate hair growth and achieve a fuller appearance. Understanding the causes of thinning and patchy hair loss is crucial in addressing the issue effectively. Overplucking, for example, can damage the hair follicles and hinder regrowth. While medical conditions, ageing, and hormonal changes can contribute to eyebrow thinning and hair loss too. But the good news is that with most of these causes, some patience and the right approach should make a marked difference, so you can start sporting a set of thicker brows in no time.
How to grow thicker and fuller brows naturally
Stop plucking and avoid brow trauma
To kick start the process of growing thicker eyebrows, it’s essential to give your brows a break from plucking. “Put down the tweezers and allow the hair follicles to recover, and be careful to avoid any other forms of brow trauma, such as waxing or threading, as these methods can damage the hair follicles as well,” shares Roberts. “You may need to let your brows look untamed for a while in order to achieve the look you’re after,” he adds. The bottom line? By letting your brows grow freely, you provide them with an opportunity to regain their natural thickness.
Use serums that promote hair growth
Eyebrow serums are enriched with vitamins, minerals, and peptides that nourish the hair follicles, encouraging eyebrow growth. Look for serums containing ingredients like biotin, castor oil, and peptides, as they have been proven to stimulate hair growth effectively. However, it’s important to note that consistency is key when using serums.

Applying natural oils
Natural oils, such as castor, olive and coconut oils, have long been praised for their hair growth benefits – and the same applies to eyebrows. These oils contain essential fatty acids and nutrients that nourish hair follicles, encouraging thicker eyebrow growth. “Apply a small amount of your chosen oil to your eyebrows daily, gently massaging it into the skin – and most importantly, be consistent with your routine,” explains Roberts.
How to create thicker eyebrows using make-up
If you’re looking for an instant solution to achieve thicker-looking eyebrows, make-up can be your best friend. By following a few simple steps and utilising the right products, you can instantly create the illusion of fuller brows.
Step 1: Create your shape
Use a spoolie brow brush to comb your brows upward, revealing their natural shape.
Step 2: Fill in any sparse areas
Use an eyebrow pencil that matches your brow colour. Use short, light strokes to mimic the appearance of hair, and apply wherever there are noticeable patches in your brows.
Use an eyebrow pencil or powder that matches your brow colour to fill in any gaps or sparse areas. Start at the inner corner of your brow and use short, upward strokes to mimic the direction of hair growth and then create the same hair-esq strokes anywhere you notice gaps in your brows. And if you prefer a stronger looking brow, create your hair strokes at the inner corner of your brow and then use a brow powder along the final two-thirds of the brow, building up the colour until you achieve your desired fullness.

Step 3: Use a brow gel to set brows in place
“Brow gel is one of the best products for maintaining full, high-definition brows, that don’t smudge, drop down, or fade and last all day. But note that less is more,” shares Roberts. Choose a gel that matches your brow colour or opt for a clear version if you’re after a natural finish or you’ve already ramped up the colour with a powder. Then simply brush the gel through your brows in an upward motion to raise the brow and get that fuller, thicker brow look.
Step 4: Accentuate using a highlighter
To add dimension and accentuate your brows, consider using a highlighter. Place your highlighter along the arch of your brows – which depending on your brow and eye shape will either be on or below your brow bone. You can also swipe a touch of highlighter at the end of the brow around the temples, as together this will lift and define your brows, giving them a more prominent appearance.
