How to Get Glowing Skin Now

6 minutes read

How to get glowing skin is probably one of the most frequently asked questions in beauty. But the truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer we all have different skin types and products that work best for us. But as a rule of thumb, there is a routine that you can follow to improve your complexion and achieve a ‘lit-from-within’ glow no matter what your skin type. Beauty Daily spoke to a range of experts to get their advice on where to start.

How you can get glowing skin

The key to glowing skin is a smooth surface and good hydration, as both of these qualities are what ensure your skin is light reflective,” says Charlotte McHale, Clarins Training Manager. “Using a face scrub suitable for your skin type once or twice a week is enough to slough away dead skin cells, which don’t reflect much light and also don’t absorb any product,” she continues.

Charlotte also recommends applying specific products to keep skin quenched. “Using products that contain hyaluronic acid, or the Clarins exclusive Organic Lead of Life found in the Hydra-Essentiel range, helps to stimulate the skin’s own hyaluronic acid supplies,” she explains. The entire Hydra-Essentiel range contains two different types of hyaluronic acid an HA2 complex that penetrates the skin to its deeper levels, as well as the naturally derived Organic Leaf of Life ingredient that adds an extra boost of hydration. In simple terms? It’s the perfect storm for achieving plumper, more hydrated, glowing skin in seconds.

Food for glowing skin

The term ‘you are what you eat’ couldn’t be truer when it comes to your skin. The ultimate key to good skin health and your most glowing skin yet is to consume plenty of skin-loving foods and ingredients. “When looking to achieve glowing skin from within, there are two steps to it,” says Preeti Luthra, skincare expert and founder of Pure & Cimple.

“Firstly, eat foods that have lots of antioxidants, such as berries, broccoli, kale, orange, bell peppers and tomatoes. They help to promote healthy blood circulation in our body, sending nutrients and oxygen to the skin for efficient cell regeneration,” she continues. “Antioxidants like vitamin C in these foods also fight free radicals from UV exposure and rid the skin of toxins, which play a vital role in elastin and collagen production.”

Vitamins for glowing skin

Now let’s get into the nitty-gritty. There are several vitamins found in skin-loving foods and supplements that are essential for improving the health of your skin, including vitamins A, C, D and E, which all help to encourage skin cell regeneration, brighten, heal, and protect the strength of the skin’s natural moisture barrier.

Vitamins B2, B3, B5 and B7 are also crucial for preventing and remedying rashes, sensitivity, and other more complex skin conditions. Iodine, zinc, iron and selenium are paramount for maintaining a healthy skin microbiome.

While you can find these vitamins in foods and supplements, you can also apply them topically by choosing some of the many skincare products that contain them.

More glowing skin tips

Don’t forget sunscreen

The key to keeping skin looking youthful, supple, and plump? Protection and prevention! The best way to shield your skin from harmful, drying and aging UV rays is to use a facial SPF every day no matter whether it’s raining, cloudy or sunny. UV rays can interfere with healthy skin cell regeneration and deplete the natural elastin and collagen in your skin, which can lead to hyperpigmentation, dullness, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse!

Cleansing daily (and properly!) is essential to maintain skin health, and to banish any build-up of dirt, grime, or makeup. If this is left on the skin, it can become clogged up, dull and dry which, in turn, can cause a serious lack of glow and radiance.

Opt for brightening ingredients

It goes without saying that using a glow-inducing serum or skincare product is great for giving your skin a quick hit of glow. Reach for products that contain ingredients such as vitamin C, kojic acid, niacinamide and azelaic acids for an instant injection of radiance.

Use face masks

Make sure to incorporate a face mask into your self-care rituals. Even if it’s just once a week, a face mask can benefit the skin in so many ways, and you can find one for every different skin type – whether you’re oily, dry or blemish-prone.

Facial massage

Facial massage is every celebrity facialist’s secret to glowing, radiant skin. It increases and encourages blood flow beneath the skin’s surface, which can make skin appear instantly brighter and healthier. Long term, regular facial massage can help with tightening skin as well as reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

Drink plenty of water

It may sound simple, but it’s something that a lot of us forget to do enough. Drink water! Consuming water is the primary way that our body, including our skin, hydrates itself.

Opt for targeted treatments

There are plenty of skin treatments out there to help deal with anything that will block that coveted glow. Shadowy lines and wrinkles, blocked, dirty pores and crepey dry-looking skin will all suck the skin of the bloom. So address these – like dealing with wrinkles above the lips with a targeted treatment plan for the mouth or invest in a skin-clearing facial – here’s how to find the right facialist for you.
